Explanation
城壁で囲まれたオールド・バガンの南東、シュエサンドー・パゴダ（No.1568）へと延びる道の途中にある。北を正面とする寺院の主室西壁南端上部の壁画。壁面全体で14列にわたり描かれているジャータカ図のうち、上から6列目、マハージャナカ・ジャータカ（第539話）の一部。壁画の下にはその内容を記した古ビルマ語の墨書がある。バガン遺跡では、絵巻のように横に物語の展開が描かれている壁画は珍しく貴重である。(JT)

『パガンの仏教壁画』pl.46／ジャータカ第539話マハージャナカ本生、マニメーカラの救済／ローカテイパン寺院祠堂のジャータカ・パネル■539話 マハージャナカ本生の場面である。1人の王子が国王である兄に理由もなく疑惑を持たれ謀叛を起して兄を殺す。殺された王の妃は都を逃れるが身籠っている。生れた子供は無事に育ち成人して父の事を知る。彼は商人として航海に乗り出すが難破、海の女神マニメーカラに救い出されて父の国へと運ばれる。そこで彼は様々な難問を解いて叔父の娘と結婚する。やがて彼は行者となり、妻の帰依を受ける。写真はマニメーカラに救い上げられる菩薩を示す。
