男女抱擁図（ナンダミィンニャー（No.577））
Explanation
バガンの内陸部、ミンナントゥー村の北側にあるナンダミィンニャー寺院の南突出部南壁西側の壁画。寺院は東を正面とする。窓を挟んで東側には護法神像がある。中央の王冠を戴き耳飾りを付けている人物は、身なりから王族を連想させ、口髭と顎髭があることから男性である。両脇に女性を抱き寄せており、密教との関連がよく指摘される。位置的に北突出部北壁西側の出胎図と対をなしており、バガン遺跡において同様の配置はしばしば見られる。ともに2人以上の人物が寄り添って立っている点で共通しており、似た図像として好まれたのかもしれない。(JT)

『パガンの仏教壁画』pl.108／左右に女神を伴う密教系の菩薩／ナンダミンニャ寺院の菩薩■筍状に屹立した宝冠、顔の三分の一はあろうかと思われる大きな耳飾り、二の腕や手首、足の甲などにはめた腕飾り、足飾り、右肩から胸の中央を通って左の腰へと流れる飾り紐等の装身具類は他の菩薩像と共通している。乳房の丸味が描かれていない事、植物文様をあしらったパンツ状の腰布をつけている事などは、この菩薩が男性である事を示す。両脇に描かれている小柄な女性は言うまでもなくこの菩薩の妃(シャクティ)である。中心の菩薩は足許に邪鬼を踏み敷いているが、胸の前で外向けに拡げた右手の間を蓮の茎が通り抜けている事から考えると、蓮華手菩薩を示しているのではないかと思われる。首飾りや腕飾りの型は、アーナンダ寺院の回廊に現存する石造彫刻像の場合と同じである。
