チベットの毘沙門天は右手にナクラ（マングース）を持っている。締め付けると口から宝石を吐き出すという。この尊像も、右手の先小動物の頭部が描かれ、これが毘沙門天であると示している。服飾等は、中国の武人像の姿。(MS)

Associated Information in Japanese: 『チベット密教壁画』バスゴーpl.16／毘沙門天／四天王の中でも最も我々に親しみのある毘沙門天(Vaisravana)。白獅子にまたがり、右手に旗を、左手に鼠(もしくはマングース)を抱く。この鼠は脇腹を押すと、口から宝玉を吐き出すと言われているが、この事実は毘沙門天がインド教の財宝神クベーラ(Kubera)と同体であることを示唆している。本尊の毘沙門天の周囲には白地をバックに八毘沙門天が描かれ、それぞれ宝玉、剣、小塔などの毘沙門天の特色を示す持物を持っている。なお毘沙門天はとくに西域の于?(コータン)との関連が深い。
