『チベット密教壁画』サスポールpl.2／ダンダマハーカーラ／マハーカーラ(Mah?k?la)とは「偉大なる黒い者」という意味で元来インド教の破壊神シヴァの化身の一つであったが、仏教のパンテオンに取り入れられ護法尊となった。通常三眼でカパーラや曲刀(カルトリ)を持っている。同図は前壁左部の壁画であるが、マハーカーラの中でも右手に魔力を持つ棒を握っているマハーカーラを、とくにダンダマハーカーラ(Danda-Mah?k?la)、あるいはパンジャラマハーカーラ(Panjara-Mah?k?la)と呼んでいる。マハーカーラの一種であるので同様に青色で虎の皮の裙(下着)を着け、仏法に従わない者を踏みつけている。
