Associated Information in Japanese: 『パガンの仏教壁画』pl.260／王船の曳き舟／イラワジ河を往く3隻の牽き舟と屋形舟■牽き舟はみな同じ大きさ、同じ型をしている。すなわち舳先は切り立ち、艫は高く反り上がって先端が三つに分れている。舳先には水先案内が1人、艫には舵取りが1人、それぞれ陣取る。漕ぎ手は各舟ごとに8人ずつ乗り組み、櫂(フローデツ)を持って漕ぐ。屋形舟(パウンドー)はそれ自体推進能力をもたない。牽き舟に牽いてもらって進むだけである。屋形舟の特徴は、舟の中央に五重の屋根と尖塔とをその上に載せている事である。舟の形は乗り手の身分によってそれぞれ異なる。国王の乗る舟(ピーヂームン)は舳先と艫の双方が二叉に分れており、舳先には帝釈天と1対の迦楼羅および龍が彫刻されている。一方、王妃の乗る舟(ピンザユーパ)は舳先の彫刻が象の鼻、牛の首、神獣の角など五種の生き物の特徴をそれぞれ取り入れたもの、皇太子の舟は舳先がインド鴛鴦(ヒンダー)、皇太子以外の王子の舟はペリカン、貴族達の舟は孔雀というようになっていた。写真の屋形舟は団扇を手に持ち袈裟をまとった比丘達が乗り込んでいるので、王の阿闍梨の乗る屋形舟ではないかと思われる。
