車上の矢番え図（ナンダミィンニャー（No.577））
Explanation
バガンの内陸部、ミンナントゥー村の北側にあるナンダミィンニャー寺院の南突出部西壁の壁画。寺院は東を正面とする。上部には触地印仏坐像がある。マカラの形をした馬車に乗り、矢を番えている男性が描かれている。弓術との関連でサラバンガ・ジャータカやシッダッタ太子の弓術披露との意見もあるが、上部に描かれた降魔成道図との関連で考えると、成道を邪魔する悪魔マーラの軍勢の可能性が高い。右側には建物内の男女とその前で跪く3人の女性が描かれているが、これらはマーラの娘たちをあらわすものと考えられる。(JT)

『パガンの仏教壁画』pl.53／ジャータカ第522話サラバンガ本生／ナンダミンニャ寺院の成道坐像(大型)の真下に描かれている画■摩迦羅型の馬車に乗り弓術を披露しているところから判断すると、第522話サラバンガ本生の場面だと思われる。もっともこうした構図は、悉達多太子の弓術披露や四門出遊の場面でも見られるのでその可能性もある。
