Explanation: Between two decorative bands depicting sakkas praying and vegetal motifs, the Buddha is receiving honey cakes from two merchant brothers, Tapussa and Bhalikka, who will become his first two lay disciples. The scene occured during the last of the seven weeks after the Awakening. The murals of monuments nos. 2003, 2007, 2121 and 2162 in Pagan represent a radical change in the iconography, technique and style following Siamese innovations. (CMG)

Associated Information in Japanese: 『パガンの仏教壁画』pl.227／兄弟からの托鉢を受ける釈尊／阿闍波羅(アジャパラ)樹下における兄弟の蜂蜜供養■ミンガラーシュエ寺院の壁面上層の帯状パネルの中に描かれている仏伝のひと齣。成道後7か所において7日間ずつ合計49日間の瞑想を済また釈尊の許へ兄弟の商人が訪れ蜂蜜を進呈する。釈尊はそれを受け、兄弟は優婆塞となる。蜂蜜を食べ終えた釈尊は頭髪数本を抜いて兄弟に与える。兄弟はそれを郷里に持ち帰りシングッタラ丘の上に祀る。ラングーンのシュエダゴン・パゴダの起源に繋がる話である。この場面もパガン時代の壁画では見られない。コンバウン時代になって取り上げられるようになった画題のひとつである。
