Explanation
バガンの内陸部、ミンナントゥー村の北側にあるパヤートンズー寺院の東祠堂（No.477）主室南壁西側の壁画。寺院は北を正面とし、同型の祠堂が3基連なっている。本尊である塑像の触地印仏坐像の左脇に位置している。菩薩のような姿で三屈法トリバンガの姿勢をとっている。また背後には女性の姿もみえる。観音であれば阿弥陀の化仏、弥勒であれば仏塔がシンボルとなるが、特定の菩薩を示す特徴を有していないため、護法神と考えられる。(JT)

『パガンの仏教壁画』pl.107／阿弥陀的印契を結んだ菩薩／守護神として入口脇に描かれた菩薩■パヤートンズー寺院の面である。三角形に尖った頭飾りと高く結い上げた独特の髪型、細密画にも似た細かな文様の腰布、透薄の下衣、目尻の釣り上がった眼などが目立つ。両手は親指と人差指とを捻じて環型を作っている。いわゆる上品印である。左腰下の小柄な女人像はこの菩薩のシャクティであろう。
