『パガンの仏教壁画』pl.63／摩迦羅に乗る火?神／摩迦羅に乗るレオグリフ(ヴャーラ)■パヤートンズー寺院の東室壁面に見られる図。摩迦羅は上半身が羚羊、下半身は魚の怪獣で、大洋の神ヴァルナや河の女神ガンガーの乗物とされている。写真の場合この二神である可能性はない。顔つきから判断するとレオグリフである。火獣(サラマンダー)だとも解釈されている。ビルマ人は、これを獄卒(ngayethe)とよぶ。
