Explanation
城壁で囲まれたオールド・バガンの内部、城壁南側の近く、タッビィンニュ（No.1597）から伸びる道の先にある東正面の寺院。主室南回廊外壁の壁画。本壁面には出胎図に始まる一連の仏伝図が描かれている。本図はアシタあるいはカーラデーヴァラという名の聖仙が王宮を訪れ、シッダッタ太子を占い、太子が将来仏となる予言をする場面で、太子を抱える父王スッドーダナを捉えている。向かって右側にアシタ仙が描かれ、その横にも若者が描かれている。この若者は聖仙の甥ナーラカであろう。また、左側には女性が2人描かれており、マーヤー夫人とその妹パジャーパティーであろう。(JT)

『パガンの仏教壁画』pl.76／冠を被った髭面の王／パトーダーミャー寺院の国王■アベーヤダナー寺院と容貌にも衣装にも共通した特徴がある。特に、鋸歯状の飾りが付いた大きな王冠と連続模様入りの貫頭衣とは王の標章として欠かせぬ存在である。立派な髭や鬚を貯える習慣が当時あった事も明らかである。
