転法輪印仏坐像（タンブーラ（No.482））
Explanation
バガンの内陸部、ミンナントゥー村の北側にある囲壁をもつ東正面の寺院。前室主室間南壁の壁画。本図の左右は多数の供養者で囲まれているが、写真では捉えていない。反対側（北壁）にも、同様に左右を多数の供養者で囲まれた転法輪印仏坐像がある。下部に墨書があるが、剥落がひどく内容を判読できない。螺髪を表さず、生え際を波状に描くところが13世紀の特徴をよく伝えている。(JT)

『パガンの仏教壁画』pl.26／初転法輪／初転法輪像■タンブーラ寺院の祠堂外壁に描かれている釈尊坐像で、左右に合掌した出家の姿が見られるところから、鹿野苑での五比丘に対する初転法輪を表したものと思われる。顔の輪郭や肉髻、首筋の皺などは279号寺院の釈尊像に類似しているが、違っているのは耳朶が完全に肩に触れている事であろう。
