従三十三天降下図中の梵天（480号寺院）
Explanation
バガンの内陸部、ミンナントゥー村の北側、タンブーラ寺院（No.482）の南にある北正面の寺院。西壁北側上部の壁画。従三十三天降下図の中で釈迦に傘を差しかける梵天。釈迦を挟んで反対側には先導する帝釈天が描かれている。西壁の北側には仏伝図が3つ並んでおり、本図は最上部に位置する。下には舎衛城神変図、出胎図が続く。最下部には護法神がいる。対称となる東壁北側にも仏伝図が3つ並び、上から酔象調伏図、初転法輪図、獼猴奉蜜図、最下部に護法神が描かれている。(JT)

『パガンの仏教壁画』pl.56／傘を持つ三面の梵天／三面の梵天(ブラフマー)像■279号寺院の三道宝階降下図に描かれている梵天である。梵天はパガンの壁画では常に三面で表されているが、本来は四面である。もう一面は真後にあるので見えないだけである。ふっくらした女性的な容貌と太鼓腹とが目につく。
